Indiana Downs History
Indiana Downs opened for its Preview Meet in December 2002 to entertain residents of that area with fun of thoroughbred horseracing meet and on track pari-mutuel wagering. Simulcast wagering facility is available at the track in every year featuring thoroughbred and harness races from across the country. During 2003, a satellite wagering facility was introduced in Evansville for serving residents of Southeastern Indiana. In the next year, in March of 2004, a second satellite facility in Clarksville was added to serve the entire Southern Indiana. With the time, the track incorporated facilities for business entertainment, including trackside suites on the top level. Add to this, the Starting Gate gift shop has stationery items for general giftware, accessories and other items. Oliver Racing LLC owns Indiana Downs - the present general manager is Jon Schuster. With an indoor sitting capacity of approximately 3000, Indiana Downs sited on a 152-acre track. The cost of construction of this racetrack including two wagering facilities is nearly $35 million and the construction manager was Turner Construction Co, and the architect was Creative Industries Inc.
